Borden turned pale when he saw that Bardy had spots. Why did he not start yelling and shouting that Bardy was a spotted owl? Sally later saw Borden's face and when she also saw the spots, she was horrified. Why would their faces be this way? Are they shocked, angry, or do they want to keep this a secret?
i think Sally and Borden got really surprised when they saw bardy had spots because it even said Bordens jaw dropped also it said Sally heard the alarm in Bordens voice
I think sally and borden felt very worried that bardy grew spotted feathers.Because cindy had to put on a red hawk's tail so leon couldn't see the spots.
I think the author ended the chapter this way because after Borden and Sally discovered the spots, the newspaper will make us start wondering what will happen. I like that the author ended this chapter this way because it seems like a big event is going to happen.

i think sally and borden felt when they saw the spots is horrified because sally said yeah pop i'll let him go tomorow and they will usually sally would want to keep bardy.
I think sally and borden really want to let bardy go more now because he is a spoted owl and in the text it says borden and sally saw the pale spots on bardy. Also in the text it said borden and sally looked at each other worid because if leon found out that the whole time he was taking care of a spoted owl he will be really mad.
I think chapter 14 ended like that because Leon might have his hearing in the next chapter.I think this because the next chapter is called "Paul James" and he is the one that is going to the same hearing Leon is going to.

I think they were astonished at what they saw because they in the book it said that Borden and Sally were horiffieid at the scean and it seemed like he wanted to shoot Bardy when I first read it, so I was scared to read about what happened next.It was really weird because it wasn't what I was expecting.It seemed like they were trying to hold there anger back and just ring his neck the next day.
Borden and sally's react was shocked. I think that they were shocked because they had no idea Barby was a spotted owl. I do not think they now what to do but let him go.

I agree that this book is one you just can't put down Brendan .I also think you are correct that the $20,000 fine was supprising espesilly when the fine for the fight was only $50 .

I think the author ended the chapter with the sign to show that you shouldn't kill any type of owl or else something bad will happen to you. Also to show that you might just want to do the right thing.
What I noticed in this chapter was that Sara and Borden didn't know is that Leon all ready know's that Bardy is spotted owl because when they noticed that Bardy was a spotted owl Leon knew it all ready and they were nerves that Leon might want to kill Bardy!!
They felt so scared because of Leon does not like spotted owls.Sally and Borden have to tell Leon that Bardy is a spotted owl so they can let Bardy go.

I think the author ended the chapter like that is because the author wants to tell the reader that people should not kill or prosses a threatened or endangered speceis.

When Borden found out that Bardy had spots, I think he was trying to convince Leon to let him bring him back to the forest as fast as possible. When Sally found out that Bardy had spots, I think she felt some-what sick and maybe scared because her face was pale. Oh, and all of this is down on the bottom of page 103 and the top of page 104.

They did not just wait a year because Leon wanted to bring him to court the next day and he did not want it to look like he hurt the owl and the judge may think he hurt owl because he used to hate owls so they would suspect him for doing it, and he would have to pay $200,000 and up to a year in prison, AND THATS BAD!!!

I wonder why Cindy didn't see the other writing, or maybe it was on the other side and she didn't see it. I hope Leon doesn't go to jail because only Cindy will be in charge of Sally and Bordon.
